Energy Trading Analyst

In this role, you will monitor energy markets, develop and implement procurement and trading strategies, and perform advanced financial and market analysis to optimise energy portfolios and trading outcomes.

You’ll play a key role in executing trades, supporting procurement negotiations, and ensuring that our clients achieve cost-effective, risk-managed, and sustainable energy outcomes.

With deep expertise in the Australian energy market, Edge2020 helps clients manage energy market risks, improve profitability, reduce energy costs, and navigate complex regulatory requirements — all while executing strategies that support their sustainability and net-zero goals.

• Maintain and enhance our in-house proprietary spot forecasting model.
• Monitor and analyse wholesale energy markets, including electricity, environmental, and carbon markets.
• Prepare and distribute market, risk, performance, and position reports.
• Work across a large and diverse portfolio, including renewable energy and trading projects.
• Lead retail and wholesale contracting and trading activities.
• Support market engagement processes and negotiations with strong analytical insights.
• Partner with the Sales and Business Development team to deliver new products and client solutions.
• Communicate complex market information to internal and external stakeholders, including clients and counterparties.
• Conduct detailed financial modelling and risk analysis across spot and derivative markets.
• Deliver portfolio optimisation analytics and strategy development for both buyers and sellers.
• Develop and implement data-driven trading, risk management, and hedging strategies.
• Collaborate with the Edge Technical Team to enhance the Edge2020 Energy Management Software platform.

• Proficient in data analysis tools such as Excel, Python, R, or similar.
• Solid understanding of finance and risk management principles.
• Able to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced, high-stakes environment.
• Experience in energy trading or developing trading strategies.
• Excellent problem-solving, communication, and decision-making skills.
• Prior experience in the energy sector is essential — including wholesale and retail markets, and derivatives.
• Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Mathematics, Economics, Engineering, or a related field.
• Strong analytical and mathematical abilities with exceptional attention to detail.
• Self-motivated, proactive, and adaptable, with strong time management and organisational skills.
