The Technical Application Engineer (TAE) provides consultant‑level application support in both pre‑sales and post‑sales environments for the GE Grid Automation product portfolio. The role works closely with customers to identify requirements, demonstrate solutions, and promote the business value of Grid Automation products.
In this position, the TAE acts as an expert consultant, develops compliant proposals, interprets technical specifications, and supports commercial teams during presentations and testing. The engineer also troubleshoots industrial communications systems, tracks issues, leads technical presentations, delivers product training, ensures EHS compliance, and influences specifications to help close key orders.
- Guide customers in planning and developing technical solutions as expert consultant.
- Develop proposals ensuring compliance with customer specifications, collaborating with engineering, product, and proposal managers.
- Interpret transformer and circuit breaker specs, single‑line diagrams, and best practices to define product specifications.
- Provide technical support to commercial teams during presentations, demonstrations, evaluations, and testing.
- Troubleshoot and analyze industrial communications systems for customers.
- Track issues discovered in demos, evaluations, and testing, and coordinate resolutions with the technology team.
- Lead technical presentations to support sales or service engagements.
- Deliver product training to customers and the sales force.
- Ensure adherence to customer and GE Vernova Environmental Health and Safety requirements.
- Assist customers with on‑site product testing.
- Influence technical specifications and support sales to close key orders.
- Provide pre‑sales technical support for customers and sales teams.
- Monitor competitor landscape and product offerings.
- Present and sell the value of GE Vernova products and services to meet customer needs.
- Build and maintain long‑term relationships at all levels of customer organizations.
- Coordinate customer calls, presentations, bid meetings, and site walk‑throughs with sales teams.
- Support generation of new leads and market opportunities in the sales region.
- Serve as a bridge between customers and marketing, engineering, and product development.
- Partner with peers and management to improve selling techniques aligned with regional growth goals.
- Contribute market intelligence and industry trend insights to marketing and business teams.
- Prepare and present technical presentations, white papers, and case studies at industry conferences.

Required qualifications include a Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent experience, deep knowledge of industrial and utility monitoring and diagnostics for transformers and circuit breakers, strong written and verbal communication skills, and a willingness to travel up to 50% of the time.
Desired characteristics are at least ten years of experience in industrial communications, familiarity with GE Vernova and other monitoring products, understanding of failure modes, SCADA protocols, and the ability to analyze monitoring results. The candidate should be self‑directed, problem‑solving, adaptable, a proactive team player, organized, customer‑focused, and proficient in Microsoft Office.
- Hold a Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent experience.
- Demonstrate deep understanding of industrial and utility monitoring and diagnostics of transformers, circuit breakers, and related software.
- Exhibit excellent written and verbal communication and presentation skills.
- Willingness to travel up to 50% of the time.
- Minimum 10 years experience in industrial communications.
- Experience with GE Vernova and other monitoring and diagnostics products.
- Knowledge of transformer and circuit breaker failure modes, including DGA gas diagnostics.
- Understanding of bushing behavior, power factor, and current leak.
- Familiarity with partial discharge patterns.
- Proficiency in SCADA protocols (Modbus, DNP3, IEC 61850); MQTT a plus.
- Ability to analyze monitoring results and recommend actions or setting changes.
- Maintain professional demeanor and interact effectively at all customer levels.
