  • Get involved in planning and submitting live and future projects, gaining insight into National Grid’s outage plans and operational constraints.
  • Participate in workshops and collaborate across teams to identify technology options, risks, and opportunities, while understanding how projects interact within a live system.
  • You’ll develop well-rounded skills through practical experience.
  • Gaining a solid understanding of electrical power principles, including how electricity is distributed across networks, how networks are designed and managed under both normal and fault conditions to ensure safe and reliable power delivery.
  • Working alongside Project Development Managers to help shape large/ complex infrastructure projects, from early-stage optioneering to cost and programme development.
  • Ensuring all activities comply with National Grid and industry health, safety and environmental standards, regulations, company operating procedures and working practices.
  • Engaging with a wide range of teams and departments to build a comprehensive understanding of how projects are developed, managed, and delivered.

  • A driving license is required for this role so if you do not already have one you must have obtained one by 31st May 2026.
  • Have or be predicated to achieve two A-Levels at grade C or above in STEM subjects, one will be in either Maths or Physics OR BTEC National Certificate OR Diploma Level 3 in Electrical and Electronic Engineering discipline at Grade Merit or Distinction, essential the maths modules should be at Merit or Distinction.
  • Upon successful completion of your two year apprenticeship you will achieve a nationally recognised accredited qualification, Level 4 Higher National Certificate in Electrical Systems Engineering HTQ.
  • You will have a minimum of five GCSEs with grades 9 to 4 (A* to C), including English, Maths, and a Science (or equivalent).
