Lead Electrical Engineer 1- Oil & Gas

Description

This position offers the chance to work in a collaborative project team of engineers and designers focused on the design, modification, and analysis of oil and gas facility electrical systems as well as power plant and industrial facility projects. As a Lead Electrical Engineer you will investigate, troubleshoot, and resolve a wide variety of electrical engineering issues while ensuring projects are completed on time and within budget. You will coordinate system‑design activities to meet specifications, codes, and client requirements, and prepare detailed calculations, documentation, and reports that conform to S&L formats. The role also includes mentoring junior engineers and requires a hybrid schedule with three days per week in the office.

• Design, modify, and analyze electrical systems for oil & gas facilities and power plants.
• Lead troubleshooting and resolution of complex electrical engineering issues.
• Ensure project delivery on schedule, within budget, and compliant with codes and client specs.
• Coordinate system‑design activities and produce detailed calculations (e.g., three‑phase transients, voltage drop, relay settings).
• Prepare design input documentation and support drawing production.
• Interface with vendors to develop material and equipment purchase specifications.
• Generate clear technical reports and studies meeting client and S&L formatting standards.
• Conduct independent reviews of peers’ calculations and drawings.
• Mentor and develop less‑experienced engineers.
• Serve as firm/client liaison in lead or support engineering roles.
• Review and approve other engineers’ design work.
• Provide tuition assistance, licensure bonuses, employee referral bonuses, and charitable‑giving programs.

Requirements

• Hold a BSEE (ABET‑accredited) degree; MSEE preferred.
• Possess 10+ years of power plant or industrial plant design experience, especially in oil & gas.
• Demonstrate expertise in equipment selection, control philosophy, medium‑/low‑voltage distribution, and analytical calculations.
• Based in Midland, TX with occasional travel; hybrid schedule (3 days in‑office).
• Preferred: PE license and construction/start‑up experience.
