The Mechanical Project Engineer role is based in Naperville, Illinois, where the engineer will manage design tasks for low‑ to moderate‑complexity projects and support senior staff on larger assignments. The position involves collaborating with a team of engineers and consultants to deliver mechanical system solutions for vertical building projects while staying within budget and schedule constraints.
- Lead HVAC, plumbing, and fire protection system design using engineering software and IMEG standards
- Engage with clients to gather requirements, communicate technical information, and maintain professional relationships
- Plan, budget, and schedule project tasks; document design decisions and track progress against fees and completion
- Solve engineering problems by proposing innovative, efficient solutions in collaboration with senior staff
- Conduct in‑process design reviews and apply IMEG quality control to ensure compliance with standards
- Stay current with industry trends and contribute to research and innovation within IMEG
- Prioritize safety by identifying and mitigating mechanical system risks
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to deliver integrated project solutions
- Identify potential project issues and consult the Project Manager for guidance
- Oversee projects through bidding and construction administration phases
- Apply design techniques and produce technical plans and specifications
- Utilize thermodynamics, psychrometrics, heat transfer, and fluid mechanics principles in mechanical design
- Train and mentor junior staff members
- Use industry‑standard software, including HVAC load calculation tools
- Work collaboratively in team environments
- Employ BIM software for building information modeling
