The Senior Project Surveyor (SME) is a senior technical specialist responsible for delivering high‑level boundary analysis, advanced computations, mapping tasks, and complex survey deliverables. This role emphasizes deep technical expertise rather than staff management, serving as an internal subject‑matter expert for high‑risk surveying assignments and supporting multiple project teams.
Key duties include performing and verifying complex boundary analyses using legal principles, preparing high‑accuracy survey deliverables such as ALTA/NSPS surveys, records of survey, boundary and topographic surveys, plats, subdivision maps, and easement exhibits, as well as processing GPS and conventional survey data with least‑squares adjustments.
The role also involves conducting advanced COGO and geodetic calculations, applying coordinate transformations, and analyzing field data, sketches, and digital records for completeness. Technical responsibilities cover preparing drawings and mapping files with drafting staff, reviewing Survey Technicians’ work, maintaining data integrity, and providing input to improve internal standards and workflows.
Coordination duties include responding to technical inquiries from clients and agencies, assisting project teams with research of public records, deeds, and right‑of‑way information, and supplying technical explanations for client deliverables. The Senior Project Surveyor also supports the Senior Land Survey Manager and contributes to QA/QC practices.
Required qualifications are a Bachelor’s degree in Geomatics Engineering, Civil Engineering, or a related field, 5+ years of relevant surveying experience, and proficiency with AutoCAD Civil 3D. A Professional Land Surveyor license and project management experience are preferred, along with strong communication skills and familiarity with Microsoft Office, Adobe, and Bluebeam.
Kier + Wright offers a collaborative culture, competitive salary ($100,000‑$125,000 DOE) with remote, hybrid, or in‑office options, fully paid medical, dental, and vision benefits, 401(k) profit sharing, paid holidays, generous PTO, free office snacks, and other perks.
