The Bilingual Department Manager – 2nd Shift is stationed in Pella, IA. This role coordinates all manufacturing activities within assigned departments to produce high-quality parts and assemblies for Pella Window and Door products while meeting customer needs at the lowest possible cost.
The manager is accountable for the safety of all personnel. This includes conducting regular safety trainings, communicating plant safety objectives, promoting job rotation and ergonomics, documenting safety issues, encouraging employee suggestions for safer operations, enforcing safety and housekeeping rules, and applying disciplinary action when necessary.
Maintaining Pella’s high quality standards is a core responsibility. The manager educates employees on proper equipment use, quality guidelines, and the impact of their work on final products, informs staff of audit findings, investigates root causes of quality issues, drives corrective actions, follows up on customer complaints, and oversees proper repair, scrap, and salvage procedures.
Improving labor efficiency and on-time delivery is achieved through the Performance Management Cycle. The manager sets goals, documents standards, identifies abnormalities, collects data, leads daily problem-solving with the plant resource team, adjusts production schedules and staffing, ensures material and equipment availability, utilizes preventive maintenance, and participates in continuous-improvement events targeting cost, quality, and safety.
The manager fosters high employee morale by providing thorough orientation for new hires, promoting handbook and bulletin-board awareness, communicating corporate policy changes, encouraging one-on-one relationships, modeling servant-leadership, and applying discipline to maintain a respectful work environment while pursuing personal development.
Supervisory responsibilities include direct oversight of 30-40 employees, conducting interviews, hiring, training, certification, work planning and assignment, performance evaluation, rewarding and disciplining staff, and resolving complaints in line with company policies and applicable laws.
Effective two-way communication with management, service functions, and fellow department managers is essential. The manager regularly conveys production requirements, updates on schedule changes, and collaborates across functions to support overall plant performance.
