Project Manager - Utilities

Description

• Build strong working relationships across multidisciplinary teams.
• Lead the safe and timely delivery of utility activities, monitoring progress and reporting on milestones, risks, and budget.
• Develop and implement delivery strategies aligned with the overarching programme execution plan.
• Review contractor schedules and deliverables to ensure compliance and readiness.
• Maintain clear communication with all stakeholders and ensure alignment with project objectives.
• Engage with clients, utility providers, contractors, and internal teams to agree solutions and drive best value outcomes.
• Define and manage the scope of utility works, including connections, diversions, protections, and maintenance across multiple services.
• Apply Earned Value Management and support knowledge capture and lessons learned.
• Develop and maintain detailed schedules, ensuring integration with wider project timelines.
• Anticipate and resolve issues, escalating where necessary and supporting continuous improvement across the programme.

Requirements

This is a pivotal role requiring a blend of technical expertise, stakeholder leadership, and programme management excellence. You’ll ensure that all utilities activities are delivered safely, efficiently, and in line with cost, schedule, and quality expectations.

We’re looking for an experienced Project Manager - Utilities to lead the planning, coordination, and delivery of utility works across a diverse and evolving programme. You’ll be responsible for managing the full lifecycle of allocated utility projects — from feasibility and design through to construction, commissioning, and handover.

Many of our UK projects require high-level security clearance, meaning we can often only consider candidates with an existing, indefinite right to work in the UK. Exceptionally, we may consider visa sponsorship for applicants with niche experience aligned to our core work (e.g. EPR/nuclear new build).

• Confident coordinating multidisciplinary teams and managing stakeholders at all levels.
• Degree-level education and/or recognised project management qualifications.
• Reside locally to Leiston or be prepared to relocate, as this permanent role does not include travel expense coverage.
• Training & Development, including additional qualifications and accreditations relevant to your role
• National Water Hygiene certification
• Utilities safety accreditations (e.g., EUSR)
• Proven experience delivering utility projects (power, water, gas, telecoms, drainage) in complex, fast-paced environments.
• NRSWA Qualification
• Track record in building client relationships and leading motivated teams.
• Strong understanding of safe digging practices and service avoidance (HSG47), BWIC, and CDM Regulations.
• Strong decision-making skills with a focus on project priorities and best-for-programme outcomes.
