
* Develop long run marginal costs for both generation and transmission.
* Develop load resource balances for the BC Hydro system and for sub-regions within the system taking into consideration transmission planning criteria.
* Work with engineers in transmission planning to provide technical insights on the integration of renewable energy resources (e.g., wind, solar, hydro) from a transmission system perspective.
* Participate in cross-functional teams and working groups to align planning efforts across departments.
* Develop and evaluate non-wires alternatives (NWAs) to traditional transmission and distribution infrastructure. NWAs would include distributed energy resources, demand-side management, and energy storage.
* Support regulatory filings and engagement processes related to transmission and resource planning.
* Prepare technical reports, presentations, and documentation for internal and external stakeholders.

* Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) designation in British Columbia or eligibility for immediate registration.

* Knowledge of non-wires alternatives and their application in utility planning is preferred.

BC Hydro is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Engineer to join our Energy Planning department. The successful candidate will work with specialist engineers from Energy Planning and Transmission planning in playing a critical role in shaping the future of BC’s electricity system by developing transmission resource options, evaluating non-wires alternatives, and supporting the integration of renewable energy resources. The successful candidate will also develop regional and system load resource balances, prepare data inputs for transmission studies, and develop generation and transmission long run marginal costs.
* Knowledge of engineering economics and principles of long run marginal costs.
* Familiarity with renewable energy integration and its impact on transmission systems.
* Experience in the use of power system modeling tools such as PSS®E, PSCAD, PowerWorld, or equivalent.
* Strong understanding of transmission system planning principles, including load flow, stability, and contingency analysis and up-to-date knowledge of NERC TPL standards.

* Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering from a recognized institution, with a strong preference for Electrical Engineering.
