The Commissioner role directly supports the company’s mission to develop and deliver clean power plants that make 100% renewable energy a reality. In this position you will test, analyze, and troubleshoot mechanical and electrical components, identify wind turbine defects, and perform repairs during the commissioning phase of a wind farm project. When no active project exists, you will perform retrofits and support other Operations and Maintenance functions.
- Commission and ensure functionality of Nordex wind turbines using documented policies and procedures.
- Connect wind turbine to remote surveillance system for functionality testing.
- Conduct independent fault analysis and identify root causes.
- Test electrical and mechanical protectors.
- Eliminate minor faults independently.
- Support Operations and Maintenance activities when not on an active project.
- Document and report technical problems, faults, component defects, daily activities, and performance data per company procedures.
- Inventory, identify spare parts and materials, and coordinate procurement with site manager.
- Document part usage and complete work orders as required.
- Manage and be responsible for Nordex material, tools, and property.
- Follow all safety policies, procedures, instructions, and guidelines.
- Perform tasks following Nordex manuals and regulations, economically, on time, and with highest quality.
- Work in confined spaces, handle weight up to 100 lb, and wear full personal protective equipment.
- Ensure compliance with all safety regulations and company policies.
- Proactively identify and mitigate potential safety hazards.
- Use applicable safety equipment correctly (eye protection, hearing protectors, steel‑toe boots, hard hat).
- Communicate safety information effectively with team members and management.

Nordex places the highest priority on safe operations. The ideal candidate must demonstrate a strong understanding of safety protocols, ensure compliance with regulations, proactively identify hazards, and use required protective equipment. Effective communication in English (and French) is mandatory to maintain a safe working environment.
- Retrofit turbine following approved work instructions.
- Meet weight requirement of safety gear (260 lb or less) and pass pre‑employment physical.
- High school diploma preferred or equivalent experience, technical training, and safety certifications.
- Two‑year technical college degree or at least two years of electrical trade experience.
- 1–2 years of comparable experience and training in the wind industry.
- Knowledge of mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and fiber optics functions and repair of Nordex and Acciona wind turbines.
- Competent in switching various types of switchgear.
- Ability to analyze and solve problems independently with results orientation.
- Strong leadership, communication, organizational, and troubleshooting skills.
- Ability to prioritize work, multitask, meet deadlines, and prepare reports.
- Ability to thrive in a diverse, fast‑paced environment.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
- Ability to supervise multiple activities, organize work, meet deadlines, and prepare reports.
- Ability to lift materials up to 50 lb; use safety equipment (eye protection, hearing protectors, steel‑toe boots, hard hat); no loose clothing or jewelry.
- Ability to spend 100 % of time at wind farms during commissioning.
- Ability to travel domestically and internationally (70‑90 % travel) and hold a passport.
- Valid driver’s license; insurable under company auto policy; subject to driver abstract checks.
- Eligibility to work in Canada without sponsorship, obtain US passport, and meet Canadian pre‑employment screening requirements.
- Ability to move/manipulate up to 23 kg (50 lb), climb ladders, work at heights above 100 m, and meet weight limit of 120 kg (265 lb) for climbing equipment.
- Demonstrate strong understanding and commitment to safety protocols and procedures.
Benefits
Compensation for this non‑exempt role is $41.00 – $48.00 CAD hourly with up to a 5 % bonus, and individual packages consider skill set, experience, and qualifications.
