Directional Drill Operator

Description

The Directional Drill Operator is tasked with operating a Horizontal Directional Drill in compliance with OSHA guidelines. The role includes ensuring crew safety and quality, and may involve directing workflow during drilling operations.

• Operate horizontal directional drill and other heavy equipment safely per OSHA standards.
• Read and interpret blueprints, specifications, and plans to determine construction requirements.
• Inspect work progress, equipment, and sites to verify safety compliance and specification adherence.
• Locate, measure, and mark site locations for structures or equipment using appropriate tools.
• Coordinate with project managers, contractors, and other departments to resolve issues and align activities.
• Arrange repairs and maintenance for equipment and machinery.
• Review and process damage claims.
• Maintain confidentiality, exercise sound judgment, and solve problems under pressure.

Requirements

Work is performed in a field environment, often in inclement weather, with flexible scheduling. A valid driver’s license is required, and a CDL‑A is preferred.

• Meet background check requirements and pass a drug test.
• Possess knowledge of the telecommunications industry and English proficiency (read, write, speak).
• Demonstrate ability to work independently, supervise and motivate crew, communicate across all organization levels, and manage multiple projects under deadlines.
• Show strategic thinking, anticipate future trends, and uphold high ethical standards.
• Have at least one year of construction experience and understand OSHA safety requirements.
• Hold a valid driver’s license; CDL‑A preferred.
• Experience operating drills or other heavy equipment.
