Coordinate with authorities having jurisdiction and other agencies to support permitting, reviews, and approvals
Produce complete plumbing and fire protection drawing packages (plans, details, specifications, life safety)
Provide technical oversight and mentorship to junior engineers and designers, including reviewing work for quality, constructability, and compliance
Perform plumbing system design and sizing (water, waste, storm, fuel systems, med gas, etc.) and fixture selection
Collaborate with project managers and multidisciplinary teams to prepare well-coordinated construction drawings and calculations using AutoCAD or Revit
Lead Plumbing and fire protection system design from concept through construction documents, ensuring compliance with applicable codes, standards and client requirements.
Conduct quality control reviews to ensure deliverables meet client expectations and firm standards
Support project planning by assisting with scope definition, budgets, schedules, and staffing in coordination with project managers
Design zone layouts and riser diagrams for building sprinkler systems
Participate in the construction phase, including submittal review, RFI responses, field observations, and closeout documentation
Coordinate across disciplines and agencies to manage final design reviews and responses to comments
Serve as a client facing technical lead, participating in meetings and design reviews to understand project goals and communicate design intent
Perform site visits to existing facilities to assess current conditions for renovation or addition projects
Assist with proposal development, including technical input, fee support, and participate in client interviews as needed.

Understanding of plumbing and fire protection systems, including sanitary and vent systems, storm systems, process waste, domestic water, lab and process gas systems, and sprinkler design (wet, dry, and pre-action)
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field
Registration as a Professional Engineer (PE) in North Carolina
Minimum of 5 years of experience in MEP building systems design for higher education, municipal, K-12, and/or commercial facilities
Proficiency in Revit and/or AutoCAD required
Strong communication, collaboration, and problem-solving skills
