Key responsibilities include developing an AI strategy that aligns with business objectives across the UK Digital Transformation organisation and identifying high‑impact AI opportunities. The leader will advise the C‑suite on AI investments, establish responsible AI frameworks, ensure compliance with UK and EU regulations, and manage risk, bias and auditability. Building, mentoring and managing cross‑functional AI teams—engineers, data scientists, ML engineers and researchers—will be critical, as will fostering a culture of innovation and continuous learning. The role also guides the selection and implementation of AI technologies, platforms and tools, ensuring best practices in model development, deployment and MLOps while cultivating partnerships with SaaS providers and internal product teams.
The ideal candidate brings 8‑12+ years of experience in AI/ML or data, with 3‑5+ years in leadership roles, and deep expertise in machine learning, deep learning, NLP, computer vision, generative and agentic AI. A proven track record of deploying AI solutions at scale, driving technology transformations, and leveraging strategic SaaS partnerships is essential. Experience with cloud platforms, modern ML frameworks, data strategy and GenAI platforms, combined with exceptional communication and stakeholder‑influence skills, is required. The candidate must also demonstrate the ability to challenge conventional thinking, oversee complex technology platforms, and create psychologically safe, high‑performing engineering cultures.
