Inspect existing conditions of soils and foundations to ascertain possible problems and recommend corrective measures
Analyze data and uses geotechnical experience to determine and predict specially developed foundation shear strength and settlement potential for various materials encountered
Support the design of In-House projects and Request for Proposal (RFPs) as a team member for complex projects. Review designs (i.e., specs, drawings, and costs) and RFPs prepared by consultant Architects-Engineers (AEs)
Interface with customer and other interested parties providing consultation and gathering pertinent information required to complete project scoping, designs and failure analysis and remedial measures
Review contractor submittals of shop drawings, samples of materials and other design-related items
Participate in conferences with project stakeholders and collaborates with other engineering and architectural disciplines to ensure system coordination and integration with specific project requirements
Initiate field trips to project sites to evaluate scoping, design, and construction
Determine testing parameters for soil conditions to design structural foundations
Provide independent, timely and professional specialized geotechnical engineering support, services and consultation for the planning, design, construction, and maintenance of facilities for the Navy, Marine Corps, and other Supported Commands, including minor works projects, specific projects, special projects, military construction (MILCON), demolition, maintenance, space utilization and facilities development
Confer with the construction contractor and designer (if A/E work) to resolve problems or latent conditions that may arise after construction
Responsible for coordinating all activities in the specialized area of geotechnical and pavements engineering, in accordance with related UFC Criteria
Make recommendations for corrective/preventative measures, as appropriate
Ensure that changes in costs, quantity, scope, schedules, design, or any other terms and conditions of the contract are coordinated or approved, as appropriate.

Self-Starter: Highly motivated, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines autonomously
Certifications: Registration as a Professional Engineer in geotechnical or civil/structural with emphasis in geotechnical engineering is required
Software: Proficiency using MS Office software including Excel, Word, and PowerPoint
U.S. Citizenship and the ability to obtain/maintain a NACI/CAC is required

Primarily operates in an outdoor environment where various weather conditions could be encountered, depending on the location and season
Must be able to work both indoor/outdoor (with exposure to the elements)
Must be able to work in confined spaces and under varying environmental conditions, including heat, cold, humidity, rain, wind, dust, and noise
Experience: A minimum of 10 years of professional Geotechnical engineering code compliant facilities design experience for new construction, including renovation design experience, is required
Must be able to drive company or personal vehicles to and from field locations, sometimes multiple times per day, and may be required to work variable shifts depending on project needs
Must have sufficient visual and auditory acuity to perform tasks safely and effectively, including reading instruments, recognizing hazards, and communicating on active construction sites
Education: Completion of a course of studies accredited by the Accreditation Board for Engineers and Technology (ABET) for a Civil/Structural with emphasis in geotechnical engineering program from a college or university earning a Bachelor's or Master's degree, supplemented by a considerable amount of hands-on facilities geotechnical design experience, is required
Knowledgeable in the development of final working drawings utilizing current AutoCAD technology. Monitors construction, ensuring the geotechnical aspects of the project are in accordance with the contract plans and specifications
Must be able to lift, carry, push, and pull materials and equipment weighing up to 50 pounds regularly
Must be able to stand, walk, bend, stoop, crouch, crawl, navigate across uneven ground that is common at construction sites and climb for extended periods as well as when traveling to and from job sites
Must be able to wear and use required personal protective equipment (PPE) such as hard hats, safety glasses, gloves, hearing protection, steel-toed boots, fall protection safety vests and high-visibility reflective safety vests
