UK-based construction group delivering building, infrastructure and specialist services across public and private sectors.
The role involves interpreting functional, control and system requirements and producing design documentation such as I/O lists, functional design specifications (FDS), system design specifications (SDS) and test documents. You will program PLCs and HMIs—primarily Schneider but also Allen Bradley, Siemens, Omron and Mitsubishi—and configure SCADA systems like Wonderware, Rockwell and Siemens. Projects must be delivered on‑time, within budget and to contractual and standards requirements while demonstrating expert knowledge of PLC logic, flow‑charting and low‑voltage electrical systems.
You will attend customer sites as required, uphold the company’s culture and values, review and repair legacy code, and conduct system analysis and development with limited support. Testing and proofing of programs against the FDS and test plans, and consistent documentation of code for internal and external use, are also key responsibilities.
Candidates should have strong IT skills (word processing, spreadsheets, databases), experience with SCADA systems and logic auto‑generation, and knowledge of electrical systems. Professional experience writing PLC code for Allen Bradley, Siemens or Mitsubishi in a customer‑focused environment is essential, together with solid report‑writing abilities, commercial awareness and health & safety knowledge. An HNC/HND/Degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering or Electrical/Electronic Engineering is preferred, though a good secondary education may suffice for trainees.
