The Account Executive manages strategic issues and cultivates relationships with Duke Energy’s largest and most complex commercial and industrial customers. The role focuses on enhancing customer satisfaction, strengthening external partnerships, building advocacy, and identifying earnings‑growth opportunities, while collaborating with internal teams to align with business objectives and reputation management.
- Establish and maintain strong relationships at all levels within customer organizations.
- Lead negotiations and resolve customer issues promptly.
- Own the customer relationship and coordinate with internal departments, including senior leadership.
- Identify and drive regional growth and earnings by partnering with the economic development team.
- Manage the sales process from needs assessment through solution delivery, coordinating cross‑functional teams.
- Coordinate customer service projects and load‑growth opportunities; promote company tools and services.
- Develop and execute strategic plans to proactively address issues and strengthen relationships.
- Monitor market trends, regulatory and environmental developments and provide insights for forecasting.
- Serve as primary liaison for project delivery and during emergency or storm events.
- Communicate regulatory and legislative matters and educate customers on emerging technologies.
- Maintain technical knowledge of industrial processes, electric systems, transmission and distribution.
- Serve as resource for internal teams to develop solutions for large business customers.

The position is hybrid, requiring three days in the office after onboarding, with a reasonable commute to a Duke Energy facility. Employees must be able to respond 24/7 to emergent customer needs, travel 15‑25%, possess a valid driver’s license, and may receive relocation assistance if applicable.
- Demonstrate in‑depth knowledge of complex rate structures, billing options, demand response and renewable options.
- Bachelor’s degree with at least five years of related experience (or High School/GED with nine years).
- Master’s degree and Certified Energy Manager (CEM) certification preferred.
- Experience managing relationships with large, complex customers or key stakeholders.
- Ability to develop results‑oriented business relationships and influence outcomes.
- Extensive knowledge of electric distribution, transmission systems and grid operations.
- Strong interpersonal, communication, presentation, conflict‑resolution and negotiation skills.
- Proven business development, judgment, and decision‑making abilities.
- Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously in a matrixed environment.
- Analytical problem‑identification and resolution skills; composure under stress.
- Valid driver’s license; willingness to travel 15‑25% and respond 24/7 to emergent needs.
