The Distribution Planning Engineer is responsible for identifying feasible technical solutions aligned with EDTI’s Long Term Plan, understanding System Planning’s strategy, and building relationships within EPCOR and the electric industry. They ensure the electric distribution system meets performance metrics and supports safe, efficient operations, while developing accurate power flow models, long‑term load forecasts, and completing required engineering studies with APEGA authentication.
Additional duties include performing contingency analyses, supporting the development of a 10‑year distribution system expansion plan, stamping and authenticating engineering studies, planning interconnections of distributed generation per Alberta Reliability Standards, consulting internal stakeholders, contributing to budgeting, and preparing business cases for regulatory filings.
Successful candidates will have a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering or related discipline, at least five years of electric distribution planning experience, and registration with APEGA as a Professional Engineer. They possess broad knowledge of power systems, regulatory concepts, strong analytical skills, and proficiency with CYMDIST, Python, Azure, DataBricks, Snowflake, Power BI, MicroStation, GIS, and Microsoft Office tools.
The ideal candidate takes initiative, builds strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders such as the City of Edmonton, AESO, and AUC, seeks smarter ways to complete work, supports the evolution of planning philosophies, and demonstrates project management and leadership in a team environment.
