The Mechanical Maintenance Technician repairs and maintains assigned machinery and mechanical equipment, always adhering to the company's safety rules.
Key responsibilities include complying with Westlake safety policies, maintaining regular attendance and flexible scheduling, performing preventive maintenance, installing, rebuilding, and repairing a wide variety of machines, servicing building and production equipment, troubleshooting issues, selecting needed materials, notifying the Maintenance Manager of recurring problems, disassembling and rebuilding presses, assisting with building repairs, and providing technical assistance to lower‑level mechanics while enforcing safety among the maintenance team.
The role requires strong industrial mechanical skills, the ability to read and interpret safety rules, operating instructions, and equipment manuals, proficiency with hand and power tools, welding equipment, and drill presses, manual dexterity, good communication in English (Spanish helpful), a quick learning ability, basic math and computer skills, and preferably some industrial electrical knowledge.
Education and experience expectations include an associate degree or comparable technical training (or equivalent experience), at least two years of related manufacturing experience, specifically in tearing down and rebuilding presses and working with tooling and dies.
Physical requirements involve exposure to high noise levels and temperature extremes, prolonged standing or stationary positions, repetitive motions, bending, twisting, and lifting or moving items up to 50 pounds, as well as the ability to navigate the facility, work around dust, chemicals, and other substances, and wear required personal protective equipment.
