What you would be doing

  • Adhere to Sulzer safety standards of facility and actively participate in the company’s Safe Behavioral Program & Take 5.
  • Operate the shear machine and adjust the backstop controls in a safe manner.
  • Maintains a clean work area, including his equipment, work supplies and materials
  • Lift work piece manually, by forklift or by overhead crane, positions and secures against guides and stops.
  • Shear and trim sheet steel and plate according to written or verbal instructions, sketches, blueprints etc.
  • Complies with Federal, State, and local occupational safety, environmental, health and Safety regulations including machine safety with all safety precautions recommended by Machine manufacturers.
  • Perform daily Inspections and maintenance of Personal Protective Equipment and Shear Maintenance as per Schedule.
  • Measure dimensions of work piece, using measuring tape, gauge, template, or ruler and square, for conformance to specifications.

  • Required: 2-3 years’ experience in use of hydraulic shears Operation or comparable experience in other fields
  • Meticulous and detail oriented
  • Basic math skills and functional literacy in reading, writing and calculation is required
  • Ability to read and interpret production and sales orders
  • Ability to check and measure parts to ensure accuracy and precision. (Standard tape measure, Vernier, and micrometer)
  • High School Degree or GED
  • Forklift or Crane license considered an asset
  • Ability to set-up and run machinery without supervision
  • Experience in safe use, storage and disposal of Metallic sheets, cleaning products etc.
  • Experienced in using power and hand tools
  • Knowledge of applicable federal, state, and local laws, codes and regulations pertaining to occupational safety, health, and air pollution control.
  • Understand and follow oral and written instructions
  • Able to lift 50 pounds unassisted
