We are seeking a Design Team Lead to guide a multidisciplinary team delivering high‑quality FTTH and coaxial network designs. The role oversees end‑to‑end design workflows, mentors staff, approves technical packages, resolves field conflicts, and drives continuous improvement across CAD, GIS, and permitting processes.
- Lead and mentor Design QC Specialists and Project Designers, set goals and provide performance feedback.
- Plan and manage workload across multiple programs, assign design packages and monitor quality and schedule.
- Review and approve high‑level and low‑level design packages for FTTH and coaxial builds, including routing, splice plans and BOMS.
- Validate constructability by checking clearances, utility separation and adherence to aerial and underground design standards.
- Produce permit‑ready drawing sets that meet municipal, utility and client requirements.
- Resolve design conflicts in coordination with Permitting, CAD, Field/GIS and Construction teams.
- Establish stage‑gate reviews and acceptance criteria aligned with client SOWs, communicating risks and mitigation plans.
- Ensure data integrity and version control between CAD and GIS, maintaining complete drawing packages.
- Implement standardized quality‑control checklists and incorporate redlines/as‑built updates into client systems.
- Support material take‑offs and respond to vendor/contractor inquiries on design intent.
- Provide expert guidance on AutoCAD and MicroStation workflows, layer management and productivity tools.
- Leverage design automation tools such as ABD/AUD to improve efficiency and quality.
- Develop onboarding and training materials covering design standards, QC methods and permitting processes.
- Define and track performance metrics (first‑pass yield, rework rate, cycle time) and report corrective actions.
- Standardize templates and QC logs, lead post‑mortem and lessons‑learned sessions for continuous improvement.
- Promote a “Safety Always” mindset throughout the team.

- Minimum 5 years telecommunications design experience, with at least 2 years leading design or QC teams.
- Proficient in AutoCAD; experience with MicroStation, SPIDA Calc, PLS‑CADD and IKE Office is a plus.
- Knowledge of FTTH/coax network design, municipal/CSA standards, permitting and as‑built documentation.
- Strong communication, leadership, decision‑making and problem‑solving skills.
- Detail‑oriented with ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast‑paced environment.
- Self‑motivated, adaptable, quick to learn new skills and collaborate effectively.
- Post‑secondary education in Electrical/Civil Engineering, Architectural Technology or related field (preferred).
- Experience with RFPs, RFIs and full execution of lump‑sum bidding is an asset.
