Specific job tasks include invasive species identification and control (herbicide application, cutting, and mowing), native seeding and planting, prescribed burning, and brush and tree removal. Depending on experience and proficiency, equipment operation and tools to conduct the above tasks may include the use of light and heavyduty trucks and trailers, chainsaws, brush saws, herbicide sprayers, ATVs / UTVs, tractors, and skid loaders with various attachments.
Working with field crews to carryout tasks related to ecosystem restoration and management on sites ranging from one to 100s of acres.

Ability to obtain state Pesticide Applicators licenses within one month, including applicable categories for herbicide application in natural areas and aquatic environments.
Effective communication skills and a collaborative mindset.
Ability to walk 46 miles per day over rough terrain and lift up to 50 lbs.
Demonstrated experience with crew or volunteer leadership, mentorship, and effective team communication.
Valid commercial driver's license and/or Federal DOT Medical card.
Current commercial pesticide license.
Ability to operate and conduct routine preventative maintenance on a variety of equipment and tools that includes light and heavyduty trucks and trailers, tractors, skidsteers, UTVs/ATVs, chainsaws/brush saws, and backpack herbicide sprayers.
First Aid/CPR/AED training, OSHA 10Hour, OSHA 30Hour, and 24 or 40hour HAZWOPER training.
ATV/UTV and chainsaw safety training.
Applied knowledge of upper Midwest native and invasive species, plant identification, natural areas, and ecology.
Organized and capable of leading work assignments with attention to detail.
1 to 4+ years of experience in natural areas management techniques including herbicide applications, cutting / mowing, controlled burning, and native planting.
Ability to work outdoors in inclement weather conditions.
Demonstrating skills and experience with field tasks such as plant identification, invasive species control methods, ecological restoration techniques, and natural area assessments.
National Wildfire Coordinating Group Wildland Fire Intro (S130 / S190 / L180).
A high school diploma or equivalent.
Where lawful and at Stantec’s discretion, your passing drug and alcohol testing.
Chicago Wilderness Prescribed Burn Crew Training Certificate.
A good driving record and valid state driver's license.
Ability to read and interpret herbicide labels and Safety Data Sheets and apply herbicides following label instructions and safety procedures.
Undergraduate or associate’s degree in an environmental discipline, preferred.
