The Laboratory Minerals Technician, under general supervision, conducts laboratory tests to determine chemical and physical characteristics of solid, liquid, or gaseous materials for quality control, process control, or product development, following standard operating procedures and ensuring accurate reporting.
Primary duties include preparing representative subsamples, weighing and testing samples, performing digestions, maintaining laboratory reports, logging and labeling client samples, archiving or disposing of samples, preparing monthly composites, conducting equipment QA/QC checks, and maintaining a clean, safe laboratory environment.
- Perform laboratory testing according to company SOPs and methods.
- Prepare representative subsamples using techniques such as crushing, pulverizing, and pressure filtering.
- Weigh, test, and digest samples on appropriate equipment.
- Complete and maintain accurate laboratory reports.
- Receive, sort, log, and label client samples in the database.
- Archive, return, or dispose of samples following established procedures.
- Prepare monthly composite samples.
- Conduct daily, weekly, and monthly QA/QC checks on equipment.
- Maintain a clean and safe laboratory, including equipment organization and PPE use.
- Assist junior technicians and perform additional duties as assigned.
- Use laboratory equipment such as jaw crusher, pulverizing mills, pressure filters, balances, muffle furnace, ICP‑OES, etc.

Required qualifications include a high school diploma (or equivalent), at least three years of industrial laboratory or field services experience, a valid driver’s license, and the ability to communicate effectively; an associate degree in science and additional safety experience are preferred.
- Possess a high school diploma (or equivalent) and 3+ years of industrial lab/field experience.
- Hold a valid driver’s license; may need MSHA 24‑hour surface mine safety certification.
- Demonstrate intermediate English proficiency and basic mathematical skills.
- Ability to read, interpret, and follow safety rules, operating instructions, and procedure manuals.
- Meet physical demands including lifting up to 50 lb, standing, moving constantly, and working in humid or hazardous conditions.
