Architect

Description

• Provide accessibility design reviews, comments, and advice to business unit owners, project managers, and external consultants to ensure projects are on track for meeting the Access Design Standards requirements of the Accessibility Policy.
• Assist in establishing corporate policies and guidelines on architectural design and technical work which reflect current best practices, codes and policies, technologies, operating cost effectiveness, occupant safety, functional use and design requirements for service delivery.
• Maintain and provide enhancements to architectural and engineering design guidelines for City-owned buildings and site structures.
• Identify process gaps and assist in developing tools and processes to support quality architectural practice.
• Act as and support Senior Architect as subject matter expert on Architecture for The City.
• Work independently to provide strategic leadership across the Corporation for Engineering and Architectural consultant framework and processes.
• Provide architectural design reviews, comments, advice to business unit owners, project managers, and external consultants to ensure architectural designs meets the owner requirements with respect to functionality, durability, cost effectiveness, capital and operational costs.
• Advise project managers on architectural related issues, from reviewing scope of work and selection criteria in RFx documents, consultant engagements, proposals, and fee assessment. Assist with selection of architectural consultant submissions.

Requirements

Working Conditions: Office environment with occasional visits to construction sites, requiring the use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).

• Ability to work as a member of a team in a collaborative environment and meaningfully engage with internal and external participants is required for this role.
• A degree in Architecture, current registration as a Registered Architect with the Alberta Association of Architects (AAA), in good standing on the first day of work.
• Experience with procurement contacting, terms and conditions for consulting work, fee determination and negotiation is considered an asset.
• Successful applicants must provide proof of qualifications.
• At least 4 years of post Architect registration and consultant experience in various building types is required.
• Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Accredited Professional designation will be considered an asset.
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills are required for success in this role.
• Experience with Architectural best practices, industry standards, permit requirements and Alberta Building Codes is required.
• A valid Class 5 Driver's License (or provincial equivalent) and access to a personal vehicle for business use OR the ability to obtain a City of Calgary operator's permit is required.
• Experience with accessibility and universal design best practices and familiarity and use of accessibility standards beyond required building code minimums is an asset.
