The Yard Technician is responsible for the general organization of the yard to ensure safe and smooth operations at the yard and related off‑site locations. This role works closely with Project Superintendents to manage all aspects of the construction yard, including occupational and environmental health and safety, yard team management, material inventory, maintenance, and minor vehicle repairs as needed.
The position requires overseeing material and equipment inventory, restocking, and yard layout, as well as maintaining a clean and organized work environment. Duties include loading and unloading materials, operating power‑driven equipment, performing minor repairs, and complying with safety policies and hazardous‑material handling procedures.
Candidates should have knowledge of safe equipment use, the ability to keep a clutter‑free yard, and strong inventory skills. They must be able to work independently, follow written and verbal instructions, maintain dependable attendance, and possess a valid Class C driver’s license (Class A a plus).
The job requires a high school diploma or GED, and certifications to operate a forklift or front‑end loader are advantageous. Mechanical aptitude is also a plus.
The position is full‑time, on‑site, and MGE Underground is an equal‑opportunity employer. Successful applicants must pass a drug screen and background check and meet physical requirements such as walking, standing for extended periods, lifting up to 50 lbs, and possessing the vision and mobility needed to inspect and service machinery.
Compensation ranges from $24.00 to $27.00 per hour, determined by experience, education, skills, and knowledge.
