The Head – EHS (Business Unit) is responsible for leading and driving the Environment, Health and Safety (EHS) strategy and programs across the BU. The role ensures full compliance with applicable statutory, regulatory, and corporate EHS requirements while fostering a proactive safety culture that aims for zero incidents. This leadership position provides strategic direction, ensures the integration of EHS principles into all business processes, and partners with BU leadership to enhance operational excellence through robust risk management, training, and continuous improvement initiatives. The role also represents the BU in external forums, audits, and regulatory interactions, reinforcing L&T’s commitment to sustainability, safety, and environmental stewardship.
- Ensure full compliance with applicable environmental, occupational health, and safety regulations.
- Drive implementation of ISO 14001:2015 and ISO 45001:2018 standards and ensure continual improvement of the EHS Management System (EHSMS).
- Liaise with government authorities and statutory bodies for compliance, audits, and inspections.
- Develop and conduct EHS training, workshops, and awareness programs to build competency and safety ownership across the workforce.
- Lead root cause analyses of incidents and ensure timely corrective and preventive actions.
- Identify and assess potential risks and establish preventive and control measures.
- Monitor and analyze EHS performance indicators and present monthly dashboards and reports to BU leadership.
- Effective implementation of ISO standards and digital EHS systems.
- Implement engineering controls and process improvements for permanent risk mitigation.
- Represent BU at internal and external EHS forums, conferences, and industry associations.
- Drive digital initiatives and implement innovative tools for EHS monitoring, reporting, and analytics.
- Maintain up-to-date records, reports, and documentation as per internal and external audit requirements.
- Collaborate closely with cross-functional leaders to embed EHS in planning and execution.
- Develop, implement, and monitor BU-level EHS policies, programs, and objectives aligned with corporate strategy and statutory requirements.
- Champion a 'Zero Tolerance' and 'Accident-Free' culture within the BU.
- Drive participation in national and international EHS awards and benchmarking programs to enhance organizational reputation.
- Provide leadership, guidance, and mentoring to EHS teams across projects.
- Conduct regular audits and workplace inspections to identify and eliminate unsafe conditions and practices.

Technical Skills: EHS Policy & Strategy Development, EHS Management Systems (EHSMS / IMS), Risk Assessment & Control Measures, Audits, Inspections & Compliance, Incident Investigation & Root Cause Analysis, EHS Legal and Regulatory Knowledge, Digital EHS Platforms and Data Analytics.
Leadership & Behavioral Competencies: Strategic Orientation, Driving Results, People Leadership & Coaching, Stakeholder Management, Collaboration & Influence, Change Management, Business Acumen, Emotional Intelligence.
Minimum 20 years of relevant experience in EHS management within EPC / Infrastructure / Industrial Projects
Educational Qualification
NEBOSH / IOSH / OSHA preferred
Engineering Graduate (Civil / Mechanical ) with Diploma / Bachelor’s / Master’s in Industrial Safety from a recognized institute
