Tasks
Monitor progress, report against targets, forecast resource requirements, and escalate concerns where necessary. Support skills development and training initiatives within the design team according to experience and capability. Develop specialist test specifications and procedures. Review contract scope vs tender scope and highlight deviations. The position also encompasses wider responsibilities in planning, procurement support, and project delivery to ensure successful engineering execution across substation programmes. Ensure all duties are performed in line with company Quality, Health & Safety, Environmental policies, and business processes. On contract award, coordinate requirements with the Project Manager, client, external suppliers, and internal teams. Interpret contract documents, identify scope boundaries, and ensure compliance with relevant national and international standards, legislation, and client requirements. Specify technical documentation requirements including test certificates and O&M manuals. Check and approve engineering designs produced by the design team. Participate in design reviews and project close-out meetings, ensuring actions are completed. Produce design risk assessments and ensure CDM compliance. The primary purpose of this role is to lead and deliver control and protection engineering designs for electrical substation projects up to 400kV. Identify and communicate scope changes; proceed only following agreed approvals. Review "as-installed" documentation and support compilation of final records for client handover. Coordinate with engineers, designers, and draughtspersons to produce required drawings. Collaborate with internal departments to specify and quantify equipment and material needs to optimise value. Issue instructions for materials and specialist tools required on site. Prepare installation and commissioning packages aligned with site schedules. Undertake engineering checks in accordance with business process requirements. Identify design issues, propose solutions, and work with management to resolve. Initiate and approve drawings for client or subcontractor submission. What You Bring
Background in electrical power system design and specification. HNC in Electrical Engineering or higher (or equivalent). Experience collaborating with clients and suppliers. UK industry experience; experience working with National Grid standards advantageous. Proficient in Microsoft Office applications.
