The Role

Overview

Maintains and repairs heavy equipment, performing inspections and preventative maintenance.

Tasks

-Maintains vehicle records by annotating services and repairs. -Corrects vehicle deficiencies by removing, repairing, adjusting, overhauling, assembling, disassembling, and replacing major assemblies, sub-assemblies, components, parts, or systems, such as, power and drive trains, electrical, air conditioning, fuel, emission, brake, steering, hydraulics; completes machine shop operations; making adjustments and alignments including bearing loads, gear tooth contact, valve mechanisms, governors, oil systems, control linkages, clutches, and traction units. -Keeps supplies ready by inventorying stock; placing orders; verifying receipt. -Verifies vehicle performance by conducting test drives; adjusting controls and systems. -Updates job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities; reading technical and regulation publications. -Must place safety first and follow all company safety rules. -Perform welding, grinding, and fabrication maintenance functions. -Keeps equipment safely available for use by completing preventive maintenance schedules; installing component and part upgrades; controlling corrosion; completing winterization procedures. -Determines vehicle condition by conducting inspections and diagnostic tests; identifying worn and damaged parts. -Keeps shop equipment operating by following operating instructions; troubleshooting breakdowns; maintaining supplies; performing preventive maintenance; calling for repairs. -Maintains vehicle appearance by cleaning, washing, and painting.

What You Bring

-Understanding of electrical including CAN/BUS system diagnostic and 12VDC -Knowledge of heavy-duty air brake systems and foundation parts including suspensions and steering systems -Ability to diagnose and complete any repair work in the field by use of service truck. -Ability to work out doors and inside in all N. California seasons. -Understanding of heavy-duty preventative maintenance inspections. -Computer diagnostic pertaining to heavy equipment engine, transmission and body functions -Must have teamwork skills and work closely with co-workers and at times communicate with customers. -Minimum of 4 years in Heavy Duty Mechanic. -Ability to assess the importance of repair and prioritize from greatest priority (safety, potential to break down on route, spill) to least important -Must have skills to communicate in written form and read manuals / TSB’s / schematics. -General knowledge of hydraulic principles and functions
