In preparation for project execution, you will initiate investments in accordance with Western Power’s Investment Governance Framework (IGF) and develop business cases to justify investment decisions based on sound assessment of relevant financial, commercial, regulatory and risk considerations.

As a Senior Project Development Engineer, you’ll challenge and influence technical solutions, ensuring alignment with the highest standards of engineering and regulatory compliance.

  • Coordinate and lead Joint Planning Teams to explore and analyse project options, identifying the optimal solutions.
  • Design, operation and maintenance of electricity transmission and / or distribution networks.
  • Provide high quality data and forecasts with respect to investment proposals.
  • Provide mentoring to junior engineers and specialists.
  • Management of transmission and/or distribution networks projects throughout their life cycle.
  • Ensure all critical systems (OPPM, CMS and Primavera P6) are kept up to date and as accurate as required to reflect project status, financial information and customer relationship.
  • Develop and collate robust and detailed documentation to support investment decisions.
  • Develop clear, well-constructed Business Cases to support approval of recommended solutions.
  • Build and maintain effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders for timely framing of decisions and/or contracts relating to complex major customer connections and line relocations projects.
  • Ensure appropriate and robust commercial solutions having regard to risk implications and all engineering requirements.
  • At all times, ensure your projects are compliant to Western Power Investment Governance Framework (IGF), Major Customer Connection process (MCCP) and other relevant policies, standard, guidelines.
  • Be responsible and accountable for the production and management of accurate capital budget requirements associated with complex projects.
  • Apply the Regulatory and Technical rules, policies and guidelines to develop the customer projects.

We are seeking a skilled and highly motivated Senior Project Development Engineer to join our team based in the Perth CBD. An eligible candidate will have a proven track record in managing large-scale, technically challenging projects, coordinating cross-functional teams, and collaborating across multiple engineering disciplines. Your technical expertise, combined with your ability to manage projects cost-time-quality, engage key stakeholders, balance competing priorities, and drive project delivery within stringent deadlines, will be critical to your success in this role.

  • The ability to apply a balanced approach to all issues faced which are complex and rarely have one solution
  • Eligibility to CPEng status by Engineers Australia.
  • Ability to build and maintain excellent internal and external relationship at a senior level.
  • Degree Qualification in Engineering (Electrical preferred).
  • Sound knowledge of business practices and policies as appropriate
  • Economic and financial evaluation techniques.
  • Strong understanding of project management framework, risk, commercial, compliance and resource management.
  • Possess a leadership mindset and thrive in collaborative teamwork environments.
  • Demonstrate a collaborative approach to decision making.
  • Well-developed written, verbal and presentation / communications skills
  • The incumbent must be able to think and act broadly across the issues faced.
  • Sound project management knowledge aligned with PMBOK principles including scope, schedule, cost, quality, risks and stakeholder management.
  • Proficient in using Primavera P6, MS Project and other Microsoft Office 365 applications.
