  • Provide support, guidance, training and work products for internal Stakeholder to prepare them for state and federal regulatory audits and inspections as necessary.
  • Engineer responsible for planning and conducting engineering and compliance activities. Requires the use of advanced techniques and the application of theories, precepts, practice and disciplines, including practical field experience. Incumbents have the responsibility and authority to make decisions on engineering problems and methods applicable to the resolution of important issues. Participates in and leads teams of field employees, technicians, engineers and other personnel. Job Summary, Key Accountabilities and On-call responsibilities vary depending on engineering level.
  • Develops or assists in presentations of engineering-related projects to all levels of management & external parties (contractors, customers, etc.).
  • Interfaces with outside departments, vendors, suppliers, and reliability entities.
  • May mentor and provide guidance/direction for less experienced staff.
  • Develops, coordinates, and directs important projects or field engineering assignments with complex features.
  • Assist Stakeholder with agency response and meet submission deadlines by resolving non-compliance issues through proven methodologies with a focus in preventative measures to mitigate recurrence.
  • Provide regulatory updates to DTE Gas from PHMSA, MPSC, NTSB and participate in industry workshops.
  • Develop standards, procedures, and/or processes for compliance with pipeline safety regulations.
  • Performs assigned (or initiates) engineering studies, proposing solutions to engineering-related problems; develops models and analyzes data to support improvement programs, techniques & solutions.
  • Provide subject matter expertise in support of training others on regulatory compliance issues as well as work with internal/external stakeholders to address compliance.
  • Evaluate and provide appropriate technical guidance on all pipeline compliance requests.
  • On-call to respond to gas-related incidents and reporting.
  • Plans and manages group workflow to meet budgets and schedules.
  • Collaborate closely and facilitate activities with DTE Gas Stakeholders (e.g., Codes & Standards Team, Operations, Engineering, and Construction Teams, etc.) to promote regulatory compliance and lead project assignments.
  • Assist various company departments (e.g. GIS, Drug and Alcohol Testing, One-Call, Operator Qualification, TIMP, DIMP, Storage, Public Awareness, Damage Prevention, Emergency Response, Operations, Technical Training, Control Room, etc.) on compliance issues as well as assist on special projects to ensure pipeline safety initiatives are incorporated to align with the Pipeline Safety Management System. Provide general support to internal Stakeholder with focus on continuous improvement of systems, documentation practices with a focus on consistency and standardization.

  • AWS or AISC Certification, API 1104
  • Proficient communication, presentation and interpersonal skills
  • Gas Utility Industry experience
  • ANST Level II MT, PT and/or UT
  • Master's Degree in Engineering or job relevant discipline
  • Demonstrated ability to research, compile, and/or prepare studies, responses to proposed changes in regulations, recommendations, policies, procedures and correspondence.
  • Demonstrate welding experience
  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or Engineering Technology and a minimum of no experience up to 2+ years of job relevant experience
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office programs, primarily Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Publisher, Access as well as Visio, Power BI and SharePoint
  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills
  • Certified Auditor Training
  • Strong time management, project management, prioritization, and organization skills
  • NACE Certification (CP Level 1-4, Coating Inspector Level 1-3)
  • Understanding of 49 CFR Part 191 and 192 or experience in specific areas of pipeline safety compliance
  • API 11669 Certification
  • Experience reading and interpreting applicable government regulations pertaining to state and federal-regulated intrastate and interstate pipelines and company and/or industry publications related to pipeline reporting compliance.
