  • Uses survey instruments to accomplish tasks.
  • Keep equipment clean and well maintained
  • Makes calculations and sets up field survey books that can be used by outside parties to accomplish layout work.
  • Review and interpret construction drawings and blueprints
  • Check and perform some calculations
  • Make sure equipment is calibrated
  • Perform accurate layout
  • Check and maintain accurate control
  • Adhere to standardized procedures and processes
  • Communicate with Party Chiefs, Survey Manager, and Field Crews
  • Conducts on-the-job training for qualified personnel and records and reports hours on Foreman’s Daily Control.
  • Perform survey layout on projects
  • Supervises the field adjustment and calibration of survey equipment.
  • Calculate accurately
  • Assists craft supervision, as required, in the review and proper interpretation of construction plans and drawings.
  • Establishes benchmarks, monuments, centerlines, grade traverses, slopes and other reference points which are essential for correct installation or construction.
  • Properly document survey layout being performed
  • Check tie-in locations
  • Perform timely layout
  • Conducts Tool Box Safety Meetings, enforces all safety regulations, and to be constantly alert to all safety conditions (good and bad).
  • Maintain equipment
  • Disseminate information properly to Survey Manager
  • Makes a final check of all work layout to insure proper adherence to references given, both by survey and by technical drawings.
  • Communicate to the Survey Manager the field issues and/or concerns
  • Communicate completion of tasks to Survey Manager

  • Trimble equipment
  • Must be able to work standing up all or most of the time
  • Requires working outdoors at times in the rain or snow and during cold, warm, and hot temperatures
  • High School Diploma/GED or higher
  • Must be highly organized with an attention to detail
  • 1 to 5+ years’ experience working on a survey crew on heavy-civil construction projects
  • 3D machine control/3d concrete paving/3d asphalt paving a huge plus!
  • Applicants must be legally authorized to work for ANY employer in the United States. Austin Bridge & Road is unable to sponsor or take over sponsorship of an employment visa for this position.
  • Valid driver’s license
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced team environment and meet deadlines
  • Ability to travel to various project sites across the South Texas Region (Austin and San Antonio)
  • Experience with the following:
  • Clearly communicate survey layout
  • TOPO experience
  • Must be able to work on call as needed
  • Be an effective communicator with strong customer service skills
  • Ability to bend, reach, lift, and carry heavy items more than 50-lbs
