Plant Engineering Intern

Description

The Plant Engineering Intern will join Atura’s Oakville head office as a valued member of the Plant Engineering Team, providing engineering support for operational troubleshooting, outage assistance, and business improvement projects across the power‑generation portfolio.

The role involves creating and updating engineering documents, analyzing drawing accuracy, supporting outage planning and capital projects, generating technical specifications, coordinating with contractors and consultants, and producing data‑driven reports and automated workflows.

• Generate, revise, or update engineering documentation such as drawings, sketches, reports, and specifications.
• Analyze and assess drawing accuracy through review and field walk‑downs.
• Support planning and execution of plant outages, overhauls, and capital projects, including drafting technical specifications under supervision.
• Oversee 3rd‑party contractors to ensure compliance with company requirements.
• Produce outage status reports documenting completed activities, planned work, issues, resolutions, and action items.
• Travel up to 20 % to facilities to assist plant engineers, system engineers, and project managers.
• Coordinate with 3rd‑party consultants on engineering studies and design modifications.
• Compile and report datasets (e.g., plant operational data) and create Power BI dashboards; analyze findings and recommend actions.
• Build, troubleshoot, and maintain automated workflows using Microsoft Power Automate.
• Collect and validate operational and testing data for reporting and analysis.
• Assist in maintaining and updating Asset Management Governance documentation, including policies and quick reference guides.
• Convene and lead meetings as required to accomplish role responsibilities.
• Evaluate new technologies, studies, and industry reports for applicability to the business.
• Ensure relevant documentation is retained according to company expectations.
• Follow company procedures including Practice of Engineering, Management of Change, and Project Management.

Requirements

Candidates must be enrolled in a Canadian accredited engineering program (mechanical or electrical preferred), have legal work status in Canada, possess strong Microsoft Office and AutoCAD/SolidWorks skills, hold a valid G‑class driver’s licence, and be able to travel up to 20 % to plant sites. Preferred experience includes prior work in power generation and familiarity with Power BI, Power Automate, VBA, and other industry software.

• Must be enrolled in a Canadian accredited engineering program (mechanical or electrical preferred).
• Legal entitlement to work in Canada (citizenship, permanent residency, or valid work permit).
• Intermediate to advanced proficiency with Microsoft Windows, Excel, Word, Outlook, and Visio (or similar).
• Intermediate knowledge of AutoCAD and SolidWorks (or similar drafting software).
• Valid G‑class driver’s licence and personal vehicle for site travel.
• Preferred: experience in the power generation industry.
• Preferred: familiarity with mechanical/electrical equipment used in power generation.
• Preferred: knowledge of Microsoft Power Automate, Power BI, SharePoint.
• Preferred: VBA programming for Excel.
• Preferred: experience with C++, Java, Maximo, and related software.
