The Transmission Operator is responsible for safely operating a variety of jobsite equipment to support transmission work for customers. This role works closely with departmental personnel, follows higher‑standard safety procedures, and assists the team whenever equipment operation is not required.
- Operate jobsite equipment safely (cranes, bulldozers, loaders, excavators, trenchers, etc.).
- Perform new construction, maintenance, or repair work on energized and de‑energized systems safely.
- Conduct service, safety checks, and minor repairs; monitor oil and fluid levels.
- Inspect work area and verify staking/locating before digging.
- Assist maintenance crew or serve as laborer when not operating equipment.
- Dig around live underground and overhead utilities.
- Train, guide, or supervise lower‑graded operators and laborers as needed.
- Follow MasTec and customer safety standards, whichever is stricter.
- Load trucks safely to prevent accidents.
- Identify and implement process improvements to reduce turnaround time and enhance service quality.

The position is field‑based and involves frequent bending, squatting, climbing, lifting up to 50 pounds, and exposure to extreme weather conditions. Employees must maintain clear vision, precise hand‑eye coordination, and the ability to judge distances and distinguish colors.
- Hold NCCER/NCCCO certification.
- Possess a high school diploma or equivalent.
- Have at least 2 years of relevant experience.
- Maintain a valid driver’s license.
- Be able to work extended periods at various locations.
- OSHA 10 certification preferred.
- Current crane certification preferred.
