The Asset Operations function is the cornerstone of service delivery, protecting the environment, meeting regulatory standards, and managing the majority of operational expenditure. It is responsible for operational and maintenance strategy, policies, planning and standard operating procedures for water and wastewater operations both nationally and regionally, ensuring value for money and customer service. The O&M team delivers national water and wastewater operational services through operation, inspection, maintenance and repair of treatment and network assets, while the Regional O&M team manages regional operational, maintenance and repair activities and health and safety, supporting the implementation of the national plan and transformation initiatives.
Reporting to the Water Treatment Operations Manager, the Water Treatment Operations Team Lead will lead and manage a team of operators, providing direction and skills to achieve optimum water quality from source to tap and ensure compliance with environmental consents and safety legislation. The role involves out‑of‑hours and standby work as required, with appropriate standby rates applied.
- Lead and manage performance of water treatment operators, providing direction and skills to ensure optimal water quality and compliance.
- Respond to SCADA/telemetry alarms effectively according to standards and request critical alarm level changes.
- Liaise with treatment operators to identify asset needs and submit intervention requests to Treatment Planning.
- Capture issue data to support operational, maintenance and repair planning and conduct performance reviews.
- Manage maintenance and repair of newly commissioned or upgraded assets, providing site training and resources.
- Coach and train team members on all aspects of relevant work operations.
- Develop task schedules and standard operating procedures to maximize quality, efficiency, and process adoption.
- Implement process optimisation recommendations to improve treatment performance and efficiency.
- Participate in out‑of‑hours and standby work as required.
- Manage the water/wastewater team budget, coordinating resources, productivity, vehicle use, and monitoring operations.
- Deliver proactive and reactive customer service; investigate water service complaints and engage stakeholders.
- Update the Uisce Éireann outage management system and support incident/emergency response with health‑safety compliance.
- Ensure health‑safety inductions, equipment provision, calibrations, and adherence to Construction Regulations and safe work practices.
- Maintain personnel safety certifications (Safe Pass, Construction Skills Certificate) and conduct hazard and risk assessments.
- Collaborate with internal stakeholders across UÉ and promote health‑safety commitments throughout the supply chain.
- Support the Uisce Éireann Transformation Programme and provide visible leadership, coaching, and development of the team.
- Comply with information security policies and the NIS Directive to protect business information.
- Apply knowledge of water quality assessment, environmental legislation, data analysis, and problem‑solving to manage water quality challenges.
- Plan, implement, and manage projects, allocate resources, and coordinate teams with internal and external stakeholders.
- Maintain meticulous attention to detail for testing, monitoring, and reporting to ensure health safety and quality.

Candidates must have secondary education or equivalent, a minimum of three years’ relevant experience in water or wastewater treatment and network distribution, and an FETAC level 5 / QQI Level 6 Advanced Certificate or equivalent. Required skills include strong team‑leadership, coaching, delegation, digital literacy, deep knowledge of water quality assessment, environmental legislation, data analysis, communication, problem‑solving, project management and meticulous attention to detail.
- Hold secondary education or equivalent, three or more years of relevant experience, and appropriate certifications (FETAC level 5/QQI Level 6).
- Demonstrate strong team‑leadership, coaching, delegation, digital literacy, and communication skills.
