Village Porters act as the first point of contact at each site, managing entry for residents, staff and visitors, conducting reassurance patrols, monitoring CCTV and phone calls, and responding swiftly to incidents and fire alarms. They play a vital role in maintaining safety, supporting day‑to‑day operations, and providing knowledgeable assistance about services, buildings, and events.
The role requires basic health‑and‑safety and fire‑prevention knowledge, competent computer skills, and a full UK driving licence. Strong written and verbal communication, a personable and alert attitude, and an understanding of older people’s needs are essential, as is the ability to act promptly and effectively in emergencies.
St Monica Trust is dedicated to creating communities where older people flourish, offering residents valued relationships, choice, and a sense of worth. With a century‑long reputation built on trust and caring staff, the charity provides retirement villages, specialist care homes, and community support across the region.
Employees enjoy a comprehensive benefits package that includes a generous pension scheme, life assurance, at least 23 days of annual leave plus bank holidays, retail discounts, subsidised gym and restaurant facilities, free parking, and the option of affordable on‑site or local accommodation for certain villages.
The position pays £12.87 per hour with an extra £1 for weekend and night shifts, working eight‑hour shifts on a seven‑week rolling roster (6 am‑2 pm, 2 pm‑10 pm or 10 pm‑6 am), giving an annual salary between £26,769.60 and £28,350.40 for full‑time employment.
The St Monica Trust provides accommodation, care and support for older people in and around Bristol. The Trust supports a wide variety of people with different needs through our innovative retirement villages and care homes. In addition, our charitable foundation supports older people in the wider region through grants to individuals and partner organisations. We’re committed to communities where older people flourish and for us this means providing opportunities for our residents to enjoy treasured relationships, exercise choice and feel valued. We call these our three C’s – Connection, Contribution, and Choice.
