Blending Operations: Operate blending tanks, pumps, filters, and scales to mix and process liquid asphalt and polymer additives according to established mix designs and batch sheets.
Sampling: Collect representative samples of materials and finished products from the plant for analysis.
The Polymer Asphalt Liquid Blender / Quality Control (QC) Technician is responsible for the safe and efficient operation of liquid blending equipment to produce polymer-modified asphalt products that meet stringent project and regulatory specifications. This role involves monitoring the blending process, conducting a variety of laboratory tests, and ensuring all materials adhere to quality standards and safety protocols.
Process Adjustment: Communicate and collaborate with plant and paving personnel to make necessary adjustments to plant settings and processes to ensure product consistency and compliance with project specifications.
Quality Control Testing: Perform routine and comprehensive testing on raw materials (aggregates, liquid asphalt) and final products to evaluate properties such as gradation, specific gravity, viscosity, temperature, and asphalt cement content.
Safety & Compliance: Adhere strictly to all company safety policies, OSHA/MSHA regulations, and quality control plans. Report any potential safety hazards or quality issues immediately.
Documentation & Reporting: Accurately record all test data, observations, and production information in written and electronic formats, preparing reports to indicate compliance or deviations from standards.
Troubleshooting: Identify and assist in resolving quality issues or operational problems that arise during the blending or testing process.
Equipment Maintenance & Calibration: Maintain, clean, and calibrate all testing and blending equipment, ensuring all certification/calibration paperwork is up to date.
Communication: Effective written and verbal communication skills to interact with co-workers, supervisors, contractors, and agency representatives.
Experience: Prior experience in chemical blending, asphalt production, or a similar manufacturing/quality control environment is highly desirable.

Math Skills: Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations and understand technical specifications.
Technical Skills: Strong understanding of construction materials and laboratory testing procedures (ASTM/AASHTO standards). Basic computer skills (Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook) are essential for data entry and communication.
Education: High School Diploma / GED
Physical Demands: Ability to perform strenuous work, including standing for extended periods, walking, and lifting materials/equipment up to 55-70 lbs.
Work Environment: Must be willing to work outdoors in various weather conditions and potentially irregular shifts, including nights, weekends and Holidays
Certifications: Ability to obtain and maintain relevant Department of Transportation (DOT) or industry-specific quality control certifications (NETTCP QAT, Asphalt, PG Binder & Aggregate).
