Reporting directly to senior leadership, the Head of Transport provides strategic, operational and evidence‑based leadership for the Regulated Water – South transport function, applying data‑driven analysis, systems thinking and continuous improvement to optimise fleet performance, manage risk, control costs and reduce environmental impact.
Within the Waste Network Division, the Head of Transport will develop and implement comprehensive transport strategies, lead fleet optimisation, oversee day‑to‑day operations, ensure compliance with regulatory and safety standards, manage supplier and contractor relationships, and embed ESG principles throughout transport activities.
The Head of Transport role is pivotal in ensuring the organisation is recognised for quality, compliance and delivering on promises. Operating 24/7, the role requires flexible working hours, weekend work and participation in an on‑call rota, with full training, personal protective equipment and company‑provided tools to meet Lanes’ high standards.
The ideal candidate holds a Transport Manager CPC qualification, possesses strong interpersonal and communication skills, is proficient with Microsoft 365, and demonstrates resourcefulness, proactivity and the ability to multitask under pressure. Experience with IOSH/NEBOSH, managerial and project management roles is desirable.
The position is based at the Customer Solutions Centre in Slough, Berkshire, with travel across the South of the UK. It is a permanent, full‑time role (37.5 hours per week, Monday to Friday) offering a negotiable salary, 24 days holiday plus bank holidays, private health insurance, onsite parking and restaurant, an auto‑enrolment pension, wellbeing support and a company car.
