The Relay Technician II is responsible for electrical testing, maintenance, and troubleshooting of protective relays in power stations, operating under minimal supervision and using relay test equipment to evaluate various relay types within substations.
- Lead safety culture and mentor team members.
- Install, commission, test, and maintain protective relaying equipment.
- Write standard procedures for commissioning, testing, and maintenance of protective relays.
- Perform function testing of substation control circuits, transformers, and circuit breakers.
- Develop relay macros and testing routines to verify protection and control designs.
- Conduct end‑to‑end relay testing using software and analyze fault‑type operations.
- Review relay settings and logic equations to confirm system operation per design.
- Create testing and isolation procedures for outages.
- Install and test communication systems such as SCADA, GOOSE, Modbus, and fiber.
- Perform circuit analysis of protective relays, instrument transformers, and AC/DC systems.
- Troubleshoot distribution and transmission control circuits.

- Pass pre‑employment drug screening and criminal background check.
- Maintain a valid driver's license with a good driving record and be able to travel out of town.
- Demonstrate hands‑on experience installing, maintaining, testing, and repairing protective relays in transmission, generation, or distribution substations.
- Possess knowledge of relay test software.
- Exhibit excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Have experience with circuit breakers, transformers, switchgear, or similar equipment.
- Hold a bachelor's or associate degree in electrical/electronic technology, military experience, or a 4‑year engineering degree (preferred).
- Achieve NETA II certification (preferred).
