The role is for a Protection and Control Design Engineer on a 150 MW Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) at Wilton International, Teesside – set to become Europe’s largest BESS and support the UK’s grid resiliency and net‑zero goals.
Working within the wider electrical design team, you will interface all HV/EHV substation equipment to implement the protection and control strategy, ensure compliance with British and international standards such as ENA G99 and DNO G81, and manage design conformity throughout the project lifecycle.
The position requires a degree, HND or HNC in Electrical Engineering (Power Systems preferred), hands‑on experience designing HVAC protection systems from 11 kV up to 132 kV (with exposure to 275 kV/400 kV), and a solid understanding of UK substation installation standards. You must also demonstrate proactive problem‑solving, effective coordination with other design disciplines, and the ability to prioritise workloads to meet deadlines.
