Reporting to the Laboratory Director, the manager oversees daily and long‑term lab operations, including staff supervision, training, equipment maintenance, quality assurance, safety, and productivity. Responsibilities also encompass project management (proposals, budgeting, scheduling, invoicing), execution and review of advanced testing (triaxial, shear, permeability, mix, rock), report generation, workflow optimization, Excel‑based data handling, and maintenance of the Quality Management System per AASHTO Re:Source and US Army Corps standards.
The role involves equipment calibration, procurement, recruitment, client and internal communications, business development, and ensuring a clean, organized, and well‑stocked lab with proper SOPs and safety procedures. Work conditions may include moderate to loud noise, dust, standing for long periods, occasional lifting of up to 40 lb, and occasional weekend, overtime, or travel requirements.
Colliers Engineering & Design seeks a motivated Laboratory Manager for its Materials Testing group in Totowa, NJ. The full‑time role works in the Totowa lab, collaborating with technicians, project managers, principals, and engineers on high‑visibility geotechnical and construction material projects. The ideal candidate is a quick‑learning, energetic leader with strong management, teamwork, and soil/rock testing expertise.
Candidates should hold a BA/BS in civil engineering or a related discipline (Master’s preferred) and have 5–10 years of experience leading laboratory or technical teams. Preferred credentials include a Professional Engineer license, ACI and NICET certifications (to be obtained within one year if not already held), and proficiency with MS Excel, Word, and geosystems software. Experience in soil and rock testing and process‑driven operations is essential.
