Field Mechanic

Description

• Perform routine maintenance, service, and repair of fleet vehicles and construction equipment.
• Document preventive‑maintenance reports and equipment repair logs.
• Use manufacturer and aftermarket parts and service software.
• Install and maintain telematics equipment such as Zonar.
• Diagnose and repair diesel and gasoline engines, including drivetrain, hydraulic, air, electric, and brake systems.
• Inspect, service, and replace chassis components and conduct electrical/electronic system diagnosis.
• Weld, fabricate, and conduct minor body panel repairs as needed.
• Verify completed repairs and ensure compliance with company policies.
• Travel to job sites in all weather conditions and work overtime when required.

Requirements

The company is seeking an experienced Field Mechanic to inspect, maintain, diagnose, and repair its fleet of on‑road and off‑road vehicles and equipment throughout Indiana. The role is field‑based, requiring daily travel to job sites, with 100 % travel reimbursed and a company service truck provided.

The position requires a Class A CDL (fifth‑wheel endorsement a plus) and a clean driving record; H&M is an equal‑opportunity employer.

• Minimum three years of experience as a mechanic or service technician.
• Strong analytical, verbal, and written communication skills; self‑motivated.
• Experience with Ford, Peterbilt, John Deere, Altec, Terex, Versalift, International, CAT, or Vermeer equipment (preferred).
• Class A CDL required; fifth‑wheel endorsement a plus.
• DOT inspection experience and ability to walk long distances on uneven, wet surfaces.
• Proven experience repairing diesel engines, hydraulic systems, and air brakes (certification preferred).
• Welding and small‑fabrication expertise.
• Ability to lift 50 lb and safely operate hand and power tools.
• Verifiable knowledge of medium/heavy truck and utility equipment service.
