The Junior Estimator contributes to the estimation process for assigned projects under the supervision of the Chief Estimator.
Work is performed in a climate‑controlled office with typical days ranging from eight to ten hours.
- Review and integrate data from purchase orders, subcontracts, and productivity reports into unit and man‑hour estimates.
- Analyze proposal specifications, drawings, and attend pre‑bid meetings to define the scope of work.
- Perform takeoffs and calculate complete cost estimates for project scopes.
- Maintain organized backup documentation for all estimating figures.
- Monitor awarded contracts, including estimating extra work items, change orders, credits, and material procurement.
- Complete additional assignments as directed by the supervisor.

A bachelor's degree in engineering or equivalent technical training is required; no specific licensing is needed. Candidates must understand estimating techniques, cost control, and be able to interpret computerized cost data.
The role involves prolonged sitting with occasional head, torso, and arm movements, and requires the ability to work under stressful deadlines, communicate clearly in English, and apply business mathematics and advanced computer skills.
Performance is measured by the ability to incorporate data from various sources, thoroughly review specifications and drawings, maintain backup files for all estimates, and track awarded contracts.
