Description

The System Technician is responsible for operating and maintaining all aspects of the sort system at the facility, ensuring safe and optimal performance. This full-time, permanent role works closely with maintenance departments and recommends continuous-improvement initiatives. The position runs a morning shift from 5:45 AM to 3:00 PM and includes 100 % employer-paid benefits, a Group Retirement Savings Plan with matching and stock options, paid vacation, uniforms, and opportunities for overtime and advancement.

Daily duties include inspecting the system during warm-up, cleaning specialty equipment such as screens, Eddy current separators and drum feeders, and keeping work areas organized. The technician troubleshoots jams, adjusts screen angles, disk and conveyor speeds to maintain material flow, and ensures proper operation of film hoods, bag breakers, and drum feeders during production. All observations, downtime, and repairs are documented on required forms and communicated to the supervisor, and mechanical repairs are performed as directed.

• Perform daily system inspections and document results.
• Clean specialty equipment (screens, Eddy currents, drum feeders) before start-up.
• Maintain material flow by adjusting screen angles, disk and conveyor speeds.
• Troubleshoot jams and report deficiencies in deficiency reports.
• Record system downtime and required repairs on provided forms.
• Execute mechanical repairs as assigned by the System Supervisor.
• Participate in maintenance meetings and support operational changes.
• Provide coverage for absenteeism and report absences to management.

Requirements

The role requires at least two years of experience in a recycling facility, a solid understanding of the sorting process, and keen attention to detail. Employees must assist with coverage for absenteeism, report absences to management, and communicate with administrative, plant, and supervisory staff. Mandatory personal protective equipment includes CSA‑approved safety shoes, hearing protection, high‑visibility clothing, gloves, safety glasses, and hard hats.
