Technicians must maintain a high level of safety awareness, perform daily climbs of turbine towers up to 300 ft, and diagnose mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic faults. They are responsible for troubleshooting root causes, executing corrective actions, and opening service cases with equipment manufacturers when needed. Energy isolation, lock‑out/tag‑out procedures, pad‑mounted transformer switching, and both small and large corrective tasks are performed in accordance with hazardous energy controls. Preventative maintenance, performance monitoring, and accurate documentation in Maximo (work orders, timesheets, PPE inventory) are also required.
Basic qualifications include a High School diploma or GED. For a Level I position, candidates must complete the Deriva Energy Renewables Academy within one year; for Level II, external candidates need three or more years of related experience and must pass Turbine Technician I and Electrical Operator I JPMs, while internal candidates need at least one year of technical experience with the company and the same certifications. A valid driver’s license is required.
Desired qualifications include an AAS degree or certification in wind/renewable energy, experience with GE 1.5 ESS or Siemens 2.3 turbines, and high‑voltage/substation maintenance background. Familiarity with testing equipment such as voltage testers, amp clamps, and oscilloscopes, as well as proficiency with heavy equipment, crane and rigging, Maximo EZ, and Microsoft Office, is preferred. Additional certifications like CPR/AED, tower‑climber and rescue, and forklift operation are advantageous. Candidates must be able to lift 75 lb, meet a 265‑lb weight restriction, and work in all‑weather outdoor conditions.
Deriva Energy welcomes U.S. veterans and is committed to diversity, inclusion, and equal opportunity, providing employment consideration without regard to protected characteristics. The company participates in E‑Verify to confirm employment eligibility. Applicants must be authorized to work in the United States; sponsorship for visas is not available.
The role may require travel to other projects and exposure to mechanical, electrical, noisy, dusty, or chemical hazards. Employees must pass a background check and drug test, and adhere to safety weight limits to ensure equipment is used properly. Deriva Energy offers a comprehensive benefits package including health, dental, vision insurance, 401(k) matching, life insurance, paid time off, parental leave, flexible spending accounts, and an employee assistance program.
