The Relay Technician II performs electrical testing, maintenance, and troubleshooting of relays in electrical power stations under minimal supervision. Duties involve using relay test equipment and tools to test various types of relays inside the electrical substation.
- Lead safety culture and mentor team members.
- Install, commission, test, and maintain protective relaying equipment.
- Develop written procedures for commissioning, testing, and maintenance of protective relays.
- Perform function testing of substation control circuits, transformers, and circuit breakers.
- Create relay macros and testing routines to verify protection and control designs.
- Execute end‑to‑end relay testing using software and analyze operation based on fault types.
- Review relay settings and logic equations to confirm system operation matches design.
- Develop testing and isolation procedures for outages.
- Install and test communication systems (SCADA, GOOSE, Modbus, fiber, etc.).
- Conduct circuit analysis of protective relays, instrumentation transformers, AC, DC, and system components.

- Pass pre‑employment drug screen and satisfactory criminal background check.
- Ability to work overtime and travel out‑of‑town for extended periods.
- Valid driver’s license with a good driving record.
- Hands‑on experience installing, maintaining, testing, and repairing protective relays in transmission, generation, or distribution substations.
- Ability to troubleshoot distribution and transmission control circuits.
- Knowledge of relay test software.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Experience installing, maintaining, testing, or repairing circuit breakers, transformers, switchgear, or similar equipment.
- Bachelor’s or associate degree in electrical/electronic technology, military experience, or a 4‑year engineering degree (preferred).
- NETA II certification (preferred).
