• Lead a team and deliver technically sound engineering solutions.
• Prepare and review designs, calculations, drawings, and documentation to meet quality, cost, and schedule criteria.
• Supervise junior staff, oversee their work and ensure accountability.
• Mentor and develop junior engineers, acting as a Delegated Engineer.
• Liaise with client and supplier representatives, attend progress meetings and address queries.
• Manage a small, locally based, single‑discipline technical team and its workload.
• Contribute to bid preparation and work‑winning activities.
• Promote effective health and safety practices within the team.
• Ownership of preparation and checking of deliverables to a high standard.

Requirements

We have an excellent permanent opportunity for a Senior Structural Engineer / Senior Bridge Engineer to join the Amey Consulting team in Manchester. The role will support a diverse range of local, national and international infrastructure projects for clients such as Transport Scotland, Network Rail, National Highways, local authorities and contractors. The position is open to qualified structural engineers across the region.

• Own projects from quotation through to handover.
• Significant experience in structural/bridge engineering, typically from an engineer role.
• Ability to produce or oversee technically sound solutions complying with standards and client requirements.
• Proficiency with relevant software (e.g., LUSAS, Autodesk Structural Bridge Design).
• Strong knowledge of CDM regulations and risk assessment.
• Experience managing and communicating hazards and risks on projects.
• Understanding of interface management across disciplines.
• Chartered status with ICE or IStructE (or equivalent professional licence) desired.
• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in a relevant field or equivalent experience.
