Safety Requirements – You will be required to comply with all work rules, safety, and Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) requirements.
You will communicate with supervisors, other departments, property tenants, contractors, public, and other individuals to coordinate work activities, review status of work, exchange information, resolve problems, or give, receive advice or direction.
You will operate various pieces of equipment as part of planned construction projects, supporting a maintenance task or assisting with exploratory tasks in response to a specific event.
You will maintain a safe work area for the work crew and public, to include but not limited to cones, barricades, and warning devices that directs traffic at work sites.
You will excavate, break & remove paving and concrete, prepare earth for foundations, stairs, operate a telescopic handler forklift, loader, backhoe, skid steer, roller, etc. in support of maintenance and construction operations.
You will operate various pieces of equipment to inspect, assess, repair, and replace irrigation, sewer, drainage, hydrant, and similar systems.
You will perform all journey-level Operator work activities and work effectively from technical drawings. You will use a cell phone, email, and job tracking system to receive notifications of new work orders and/or requests and documenting your daily work activities.

Communication - You have excellent communication with the public and employees from a diverse background.
CDL Requirement - You will be required to participate in the Port of Seattle Drug and Alcohol Program as required by the Department of Transportation Federal Highway Administration. This includes submitting an additional application disclosing 10 years of employment and 3 years of driver history, MVR verification, 3-year drug and alcohol reference check, pre-employment drug test, and ongoing participation in a random drug and alcohol test program.
CDL/Driving Requirements – Candidates may be disqualified for a conviction or citation of any of the following during the past 5 years: More than two (2) moving violations and/or at-fault accidents of any kind, speeding over 15mph above the speed limit, reckless driving, negligent driving, driving while under the influence of alcohol or other drugs, license suspended / revoked / cancelled / restricted, hit and run, vehicular homicide, vehicular assault, eluding law enforcement, leaving the scene of an accident.
Customer Service – You deliver excellent service under pressure during stressful/emergency situations.
Knowledgeable – You have a strong technical and mechanical knowledge with a variety of tools and equipment. You are familiar with all work-related safety codes, regulations, and requirements, can work at heights, over water, and in confined spaces, and can properly use rigging, personal safety equipment, and industry required tools. You have knowledge of construction means, methods and practices of respective trade and you have followed plans and drawings to guide the work you perform.
Desired – We hope you have extensive experience using the equipment above. You are a Certified Erosion and Sediment Control Lead (CESCL). You have experience managing and documenting BMP’s. You have completed HAZWOPPER training. You are OSHA 30 certified. You know how to use a smartphone for communication, email, texting, photos, Microsoft Teams, google maps, and for research. You are comfortable using a computer for email and for looking things up.
Educated – You possess a High School diploma or GED equivalent.
Work Environment – You will generally work outdoors in all types of weather conditions. You may be exposed to areas of high noise, moving traffic and various hazardous materials and you may work at heights and/or in confined spaces.
Driver’s License – You must have a valid Washington state commercial driver’s license Class A or B to travel locally to project sites and a Current DOT Health Card.
Experienced – You have five (5) years of recent experience in both operating heavy construction equipment, vehicles, and various tools, or you have completed an Operator apprenticeship program or equivalent. Your five (5) years of recent experience with heavy construction equipment and vehicles include Backhoes, Excavators, Forklifts, Reach-Alls, Skid Steers, and Loaders.
Security Requirements – As the successful candidate, you must obtain a Transportation Worker Identification Card (TWIC) within the first three months of employment.
