Service Specialist - Building Automation (San Jose)

Description

• Identifies areas of system performance improvements to owners and coordinates with sales to document, pursue, and sell them
• Provide support for ongoing service engineering and support for existing building systems. Provide Controls or Special Systems database, graphics, programming, etc. for sequences as provided by Design Specialists, project specifications, or other sources as applicable
• Climb several flights of stairs or ladders throughout a typical day on a construction site
• Trains customer in systems operations
• Coordinates with Material Coordinator to achieve maximum cash flow and material handling efficiency
• Communicate with internal employees as required to ensure Next Level labor is accurate and timely and estimated productivity is achieved in all areas
• Ensure timely software backups are created for projects and software development
• Provides sketches of field changes and discrepancies for engineering corrections and drawings
• Trains less experienced representatives and coordinates their work activity on multi-person jobs
• Communicates with customer upon arrival and before leaving the work site
• Lift and carry ladders, drawings, personal computers, material, etc.
• Debug installation issues during both the static and dynamic start up and commissioning of building controls and special systems
• Conducts preventive maintenance, installation, commissioning, and general servicing of systems (including detailed troubleshooting of systems)
• Recommends technical solutions to sales and Assist Sales team during estimating phase and if necessary, demonstrate efficient EMS systems to new customers
• Keeps customer informed on the nature of service provided, and outstanding issues and recommends system enhancement/upgrade/replacement
• Complete time sheets, service work orders, and other paperwork required for this position in an accurate and timely manner. Design Controls or Special Systems projects to meet scope of work and budget as defined by contract documents and sales estimate
• Compiles job documentation, such as certificate of completion, customer training form, training certificates and punch lists
• Maintain a satisfactory driving record which, per NXL’s vehicle policy, allows the individual to drive a company vehicle
• Meets regularly with customers to become familiar with operating problems
• Conducts extensive self-study (reading, research and practice) to improve and maintain technical proficiency in company's supported product lines

Requirements

• Ability to explain technical information to non-technical people
• PC experience required and the ability to program software and understand software
• Works with minimal direction in the field
• Spend significant time standing and walking on construction sites
• Associate degree in electronics, mechanical systems, computer technology, air conditioning or similar field
• 3+ years of experience within the HVAC controls or PLC industry – required
• Ability to pass background check and good driving record required
• This requires a knowledge of HVAC control systems, site preparation, peripheral equipment installation, and servicing techniques
• Degree may be offset by two years’ experience in servicing electronic and/or mechanical systems
• Proficient in any or all the following systems: Siemens, Johnson Controls F/X or Metasys, Honeywell, Tridium, Distech or Alerton – all highly preferred, but not required
• Leadership skills to coordinate the activities of System Representatives on a job site
• Be able to
• Effective interpersonal skills to properly represent inside and to customers as well as other outside contacts
• Be physically able to kneel, stoop and crawl
