All vehicle operation must comply with WM Safety and Life Critical Rules, OSHA, DOT, and applicable local, state, and federal regulations. Drivers perform pre‑ and post‑trip inspections, report unsafe situations, incidents, and service interruptions, and attend required training and briefings. They work with Operations Managers to improve route efficiency, communicate customer requests, dump receptacles cleanly, follow assigned routes, complete end‑of‑day documentation, and assist fellow drivers as needed.
Drivers operate heavy‑duty trucks equipped with front, side, or rear‑end lift attachments, transporting waste or recyclable material to disposal, transfer, or recycle facilities once legal load capacity is reached. Commercial drivers handle containers that can exceed 1,000 pounds and perform pick‑up services in high‑traffic areas, while residential drivers collect household waste and navigate residential environments. Roll‑off drivers prepare, load, and transport large open‑top or compactor containers, often working in tight overhead spaces on industrial routes, all requiring highly skilled backing maneuvers.
Candidates must hold a valid CDL Class A or B with an air‑brake endorsement—or have equivalent recent military driving experience—plus at least one year of commercial driving experience. Applicants must be at least 18 years old, legally authorized to work in the United States, and preferably possess a High School Diploma or GED.
The role requires physical capabilities such as standing, walking, lifting, pushing, pulling, crouching, reaching, handling, sitting, talking, and hearing to safely perform job duties.
