This role is responsible for onboarding, developing, coaching, mentoring, and performance management of all drivers and helpers. It establishes and maintains positive relationships with front‑line employees and spends the majority of the day in the field alongside them.
Essential duties include ensuring new frontline employees have the tools, instruction, and feedback needed for daily success, meeting with them daily for consistent communication, and providing timely touchpoints. The role regularly reviews best practices to enhance performance, focuses on employee career goals, identifies improvement opportunities, and collaborates to ensure continued success. It also leads by example on safety, teaches the WM Way, and conducts root‑cause investigations for injuries and incidents, maintaining required regulatory records.
Additional responsibilities involve reviewing and auditing documentation related to route operations such as DVIRs, driver time and attendance, and open tickets, and following up where appropriate. The employee visits customers and sites to evaluate and resolve safety issues, seeking service alternatives when needed.
Required qualifications are an accredited associate’s degree (or a high school diploma with two years of relevant experience), being at least 18 years old, legal eligibility to work in the country, and a valid driver’s license. Preferred qualification is successful completion of the WM Operations Manager Trainee program.
The position operates in a hybrid office and plant/field environment, routinely using standard office equipment while also performing field duties. Physical demands are typical for a mix of office and field work, with reasonable accommodations available.
WM offers a competitive total compensation package that includes medical, dental, vision, life insurance, short‑term disability, a stock purchase plan, 401(k) match, paid vacation, holidays, and personal days, with benefits varying by site.
