The Market Development Analyst will serve as the central intelligence hub for regulatory and commercial teams, extracting key data from state utility commission filings such as budgets, program goals, and policy mandates. This insight fuels regulatory advocacy, informs senior staff on strategic engagements with commissions, and translates dense filings into actionable intelligence for the sales organization.
In this role you will navigate dockets to spot risks and opportunities for Uplight’s solutions, synthesize high‑level and detailed summaries of regulatory filings, and provide foundational research for formal comments, testimony, and thought‑leadership pieces that shape policy outcomes.
You will empower sales development by delivering utility pain points, goals, and budget information, support RFP responses with targeted regulatory intelligence to improve win rates, and proactively identify upcoming filing dates and program cycles to uncover new sales opportunities before they become public.
Your contributions will be measured through ongoing market coverage, deep‑dive sales enablement research, strategic projects such as competitor benchmarking or avoided‑cost analysis, and maintaining up‑to‑date trackers and resources that make regulatory intelligence accessible company‑wide. Participation in industry conferences like NARUC will also be part of the role.
The ideal candidate has at least two years of experience in the regulatory, utility, energy, or climate sector, a solid grasp of state utility commission processes, and the ability to distill complex legislative language into clear, actionable takeaways. Strong curiosity, ownership, and a willingness to travel occasionally (approximately 5%) are required.
Bonus considerations include direct experience with a State Utility Commission or regulated utility, technical knowledge of Virtual Power Plants or DERMS, prior market development or regulatory affairs work in a clean‑tech SaaS environment, and a background in economics or policy analysis related to demand‑side management.
